The Wichita Falls Area Food Bank has announced a new campaign to help improve the lives of thousands of individuals in Texoma.

On Thursday, April 30, WFAFB announced the launch of a new fundraising campaign to support the construction of the James N. McCoy Foundation Distribution and Education Center. The announcement came from an event hosted at their building, located at 1230 Midwestern Pkwy.

According to a news release from WFAFB, the new facility will approximately triple the storage for fresh, nutritious food for the 12 counties it serves. The facility will also offer educational programs to teach individuals new skills for making health-promoting, budget-friendly meals.

WFAFB serves Archer, Baylor, Clay, Foard, Haskell, Jack, Knox, Montague, Throckmorton, Wichita, Wilbarger and Young County, which has the 15th-highest hunger rate in the nation and currently has 42,000 neighbors experiencing hunger.

The news release stated that the current facility only serves about 28,000 individuals, leaving 14,000 underserved. The new facility will revolutionize how WFAFB combats hunger in Texoma.

The James N. McCoy Foundation Distribution and Education Center will:

• Serve the current 42,000 and future neighbors experiencing hunger.

• Triple capacity to distribute fresh and nutritious food.

• Provide on-site nutrition education classes.

• Designate space for emergency and disaster relief products.
