NUTRITION EDUCATION SERVICES
Cooking Matters
A 6-week cooking course by Share Our Strength curriculum in Head Start classes (Exploring Foods Together), At local Junior High & Boys & Girls Club (Cooking Matters in Your Community), and Cooking Matters for Adults (Health Department, Housing Authority sites)
These programs implement MyPlate (a resource for nutrition information), cooking skills, recipes, physical activity, educational handouts, and hands-on learning opportunities to different age groups focusing on preparing meals that are healthy, balanced, and affordable. Not only are they educational, they are fun!
Healthy Pantry Project
With the healthy pantry project we encourage clientele to make healthier food choices in hopes of reducing diet related diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. We aim to provide food demonstrations & examples of unfamiliar food items.
Grocery store tours
grocery store tours are a fun and educational way to teach our clients about where to find healthy food in local grocery stores, how to read nutrition labels, and how to shop to get the most bang for your buck!
