Lara's family is all smiles at Clay County Mission Pantry in Henrietta.

“This is a great way to get the family through the month,” Lara says as she and her daughters load their trunk with nutritious groceries.

We had the opportunity to chat with Lara and her girls during their visit to Clay County Mission Pantry, a Food Bank partner agency in Henrietta. The family was thrilled to be able to pick up healthy food, which had been hard to come by.

You see, Lara and her kids live in Lindsey, where the nearest grocery store is 15 miles away. If that weren’t enough of a challenge, Lara’s car recently broke down, so she has to share transportation.

She works at a local gas station to provide for the family and does her best to make her income stretch. But with her school-aged children home in the summer without the free meals they typically eat in the cafeteria, covering just basic expenses will be a real struggle.

This is a big problem. Without enough healthy meals on the table, kids like Lara’s are more likely to get sick, experience developmental delays, have trouble concentrating and more.

That’s why your partnership is so greatly needed — and so greatly appreciated. Lara knows that if it weren’t for your support, she wouldn’t be able to afford enough food for her family. She’s so grateful you choose to give.

“We really appreciate what you do for us,” she says.

When you help fight summer hunger, you ensure children like Lara’s daughters are prepared to succeed and eventually break the cycle of poverty for their families. Thank you for being a hero for your neighbors facing hunger!
